Hands on Learning Outdoor Skills for our Nation's Youth
mmmmm, mmmm, mmm... Do you see corn or Backstraps?
Deer Mecca is a not for profit scientific research group, dedicated to providing sustainable harvest data for our nation's future generations. Hands on, one on one, Educational Programs designed to teach our children exciting outdoor skills they can use for years to come. Southern Ohio is currently in the midst of a prescription pain pill epidemic killing more than 300 mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters every year. Admissions into local rehab centers are five times the national average. We need help to give our children better options, interests, and hobbies to occupy their time with healthy outdoor pursuits in which they can take/earn their own pride, and give them a better opportunity to succeed.
In the spring of 2013, Deer Mecca created the first of it's kind, Youth Public Hunting Area. With over 800 acres enrolled in the program, any minor meeting the proper Ohio Hunting License requirements, may bring a guest and sign in on one of the four different areas to hunt. The only stipulation, they must post a picture taken with their hunting partner for the day, and they must also post a picture after any successful harvest, be it a big buck or single squirrel. Log Books are provided at the parking area to record hunting pressure and observations. Hunters are encouraged to contact each other to share wildlife observations, and "secret spots". Both my brother and myself have got the biggest deer of our lives in each other's secret spot. His came from my secret spot, and mine came from his. =)
Active timber harvest rotation produces food, cover, and high carrying capacities for wildlife. It also provides the exact nutrition needed to grow monster whitetail bucks.
